Revenue Doubling Companies — US Stocks Growing Revenue 50%+ Year over Year

Revenue growth above 50% annually means the company's top line is expanding at a rate that doubles it in approximately 18 months (at exactly 50% annual growth, doubling occurs in 1.4 years; at 100% growth, in exactly 1 year). This is hypergrowth territory — the rate associated with the fastest-expanding companies in US public markets, typically in their early expansion phases.

Companies at inflection points: early SaaS platforms achieving product-market fit and scaling sales; biotech companies post-drug approval with rapid patient adoption ramps; marketplace businesses achieving network effect tipping points; consumer brands going viral; companies in new geographic expansions or product category launches; and businesses benefiting from major secular tailwinds (AI infrastructure, renewable energy, new payment rails).

Rarely beyond 2–3 years. As the revenue base grows larger, each additional year requires more absolute revenue to maintain the same percentage growth. A company growing from $100M to $150M (50%) needs to grow from $150M to $225M the following year — a larger absolute increment. Most hypergrowth companies experience natural growth deceleration as they penetrate more of their addressable market.

The Rule of 40 states that a quality SaaS business's growth rate plus its operating margin should sum to at least 40. A company growing at 60% with -20% operating margin scores 40 — borderline. A company growing at 80% with -5% operating margin scores 75 — excellent. The Rule of 40 balances growth ambition against profitability, preventing companies from growing at any cost. It's the most widely used SaaS quality benchmark.

Traditional P/E is not useful — these companies are typically pre-profitability or early in their profit cycle. Common approaches: Price/Sales relative to growth rate (high growth justifies high P/S), EV/Revenue with a growth adjustment, or DCF with scenario analysis for growth deceleration. The most important valuation question is at what growth rate the current multiple is 'priced in' — and whether that growth rate is achievable.

Gross margin = (Revenue − Cost of Goods Sold) / Revenue. High gross margins (above 60%) mean each additional revenue dollar contributes strongly to eventual profitability — as the company scales, fixed costs spread over more revenue and operating leverage kicks in. Low gross margins (below 30%) mean revenue growth delivers limited improvement to economics even at scale. For hypergrowth companies, gross margin is more important than current profitability.

Multiple compression occurs when growth decelerates. If the market prices a stock at 30× revenue expecting 80% growth, and growth slows to 40%, the market re-rates to 15× revenue — the stock falls 50% even though the business itself is still growing at 40% annually. This is why hypergrowth stocks can decline severely on 'good but not great' earnings that show even modest growth deceleration below expectations.

The screen uses minimum $200M market cap to ensure basic liquidity and institutional viability. There's no hard maximum, but the most actionable discovery opportunities are in the $200M–$5B range where growth isn't yet fully reflected in a large base capitalization. A $100B company growing at 50% is extraordinary but the total return potential from that base is more limited than a $500M company achieving the same rate.

Acquisitions can inflate reported revenue growth significantly. A company growing organically at 10% but making an acquisition that adds 45% of its current revenue will show 55% total revenue growth. Always check the earnings release for organic revenue growth breakouts — typically disclosed as 'organic' or 'same-store' revenue growth. Acquisition-driven growth is less predictable and quality than organic growth.

Growth deceleration is the most important event for hypergrowth stocks. When 50%+ growers slow to 30%, the re-rating can be significant — even though 30% growth is outstanding by any objective standard. Investors who bought expecting the hypergrowth to continue indefinitely often sell aggressively. The exit signal for hypergrowth positions is deceleration below the rate implied by current valuation multiples.
