Sustained quarterly earnings growth is one of the strongest fundamental signals an investor can observe. A single strong quarter can be luck, seasonality, or a one-time benefit. Two consecutive quarters of improvement begin to suggest a trend. But four consecutive quarters of strictly increasing net profit — each quarter better than the one before it — is a powerful indicator that a company's underlying business is genuinely accelerating. This screen exists to surface exactly those companies.

The filter logic uses a window function to rank each company's four most recent quarterly reporting periods by date, assigning rank 1 to the most recent quarter (Q0), rank 2 to the one before it (Q1), and so on through rank 4 (Q3, the oldest of the four). For a company to appear in this screen, the following must be true simultaneously: Q0 net income > Q1 net income, Q1 net income > Q2 net income, and Q2 net income > Q3 net income. All four quarters must be available in the database. Companies with fewer than four quarters of data are automatically excluded.

Note that this screen does not require profitability — if a company is reducing its losses each quarter (e.g., Q3 loss: −$100M, Q2: −$70M, Q1: −$40M, Q0: −$10M), it technically qualifies because the net income is strictly increasing. While such trajectories can be interesting as turnaround candidates, investors should verify whether the trend is on track to reach profitability and whether cash burn is manageable. Focus on profitable companies (positive Q0 net income) for the most conventional interpretation of this screen.

The most powerful signals come from companies where all four quarters are positive and the sequential improvement is not driven by a single giant Q0 versus three tiny quarters. Check the revenue trend alongside profit — a company improving profits by cutting costs without growing revenue is not the same quality of compounder as one growing both.
